I really, really enjoyed the user experience with the Novatel MiFi unit I tested out last month — so I was delighted to get the opportunity to check-out the first lot of production 3UK Huawei E5830 wireless mobile WiFi/MiFi units. These will be available from 3UK on Friday starting at £99 PAYG (includes 3 months of 3gb/month data) or £69.99 on contract (£15/month for 5gb/month data). See what you think of the experience in the video. I simply love how easy it is to use. No dongles. No arsing about with leads. No software required. Just switch the device on and away you go!

Great review, helped me make the plunge to buy a MiFi unit of my own. Just added a 'first impressions' review to my blog, http://geekswithblogs.net/twickers/archive/2009..., and linked back here for your video review (why reinvent the wheel?).
Ewan are there any Mac drivers for the E5830?
Steve
Steve, no, I don't think it does have Mac drivers so you couldn't necessarily use it as a dongle. But the wifi part will work fine.
Huawei is pronounced “wha-way”
this E5830 is not user friendly , they dont support he wed management like you login 192.168.1.1 to do the setting , change apn and profile….very time changing the apn , you need to plug into the NB with USB.
i am using itouch pod , i got trouble for it…..

I picked one of these up today and am fairly impressed. The only real downsides are the average 3 coverage and the crazy boot up process. Are three, very long button presses really needed?!
