Symbian is embracing social mobile services in a very big way as James Aley of the Symbian Foundation explains in detail in today’s video.  They’re essentially building support for social services such as Twitter, Facebook and so on right into the operating system — so, as a developer, you can simply make a call to the OS for a list of currently active friends irrespective of what actual service they’re using.  The possibilities of this are pretty substantial.  Expect, for example, to see a whole array of applications using social services with ease.  James elegantly explains the concept in this video.  If you’d like a little more detail, Rafe produced this related article on All About Symbian.
