I’ve been following Blue Systems for some time — I really like their real-time financial data BlackBerry service, Blue Mobile. I caught up with Blue Systems’ Natasha Malook at the EMEA BlackBerry Alliance Summit recently to find out what was new.

Episode 54: Natasha Malook of Blue Systems
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009Episode 51: Araaf Razab‐Sekh of RSIC
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009I was delighted to catch Araaf Razab‐Sekh, General Manager at RSIC. They’re a Netherlands based mobile developer specialising in BlackBerry. Araaf took some time to tell me about their really smart forms-based services that they’re deploying for a huge array of organisations, from municipal authorities to large enterprise customers. Have a watch!
Episode 50: Gavin May of Sage
Monday, December 7th, 2009If you’re hunting for an opportunity to work at the thicker, more valuable business end of the mobile industry, I strongly recommend you take a bit of time out and look at what financial experts Sage are up to. They’re in the process of developing a burgeoning ecosystem for developers — and mobile features heavily in their plans. Business Development Director, Gavin May, was at the EMEA BlackBerry Alliance Summit the other week — have a watch and see what you think. If you need an introduction, let me know.
Episode 18: MiFi 2352 mobile broadband hotspot
Friday, August 7th, 2009You need a MiFi 2352 mobile broadband hotspot device. You just do, especially if you work in mobile development and you find yourself on-the-go regularly. Just pop a sim-card inside the MiFi and hit the button to start your personal hotspot. Up to five of your 802.11b/g devices can piggy-back on the MiFi’s data connection for up to four hours. Genius. Have a watch of the video and you’ll see just how smart it is.
You can pick one up for £209 from Expansys.
Episode 14: Ed Lea, Europe’s #1 independent iPhone Developer
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009It was an absolute pleasure to sit down for an hour with iPhone developer extraordinaire, Ed Lea. I dropped him an email on the off chance that he’d be available to pop by One Alfred Place for a bit of filming. He’s usually knee deep in code and, as one of Europe’s leading (and most successful) independent iPhone developers, he’s in huge, huge, huge demand.
This is what Mobile Developer TV is all about. Sitting down with uber-smart people and capturing them talking, informally, directly, honestly, about their experiences.
We filmed for about an hour and more or less all of it is gold dust.
If you’re involved in iPhone development — or indeed, any mobile development, seriously take a few minutes aside to sit and watch Ed talk about his experiences.
In this episode, we get introduced to Ed, a bit of background — then we find out about his initial experiences with his first few applications.
Episode 13: A walkabout and demo at Funambol
Friday, June 12th, 2009I’ve been watching Fumambol, the open source ‘MobileWe for Billions of mobile phones’, for quite a while. I’m always one of the first to try out their new services — Indeed I think I was one of the first to download their Android Sync app. So I was delighted to get the invitation to pop by Funambol’s offices to bring you a tour of their Silicon Valley HQ and a demo of their all new and simply gorgeous open source MobileWe portal.
What a lot of people might now know is that you can integrate Funambol’s open source sync solutions into your products and services very easily. So for example, if you’ve developed an application to track a series of relevant dates (e.g. TV Show times), you can have your app sync with your user’s calendar automatically. You don’t need to worry about supporting a few billion handsets — Funambol have got that covered.
Take a bit of time and have a watch! You can find the Funambol Developer’s Forge packed with info here.
Episode 3: Mark Curtis of Flirtomatic shows us around their office
Thursday, May 28th, 2009Last week I headed over to the West End of London to visit Flirtomatic, one of the world’s leading mobile flirting/dating sites.
I asked their CEO, Mark Curtis, to show us around the office before we sat down and talked about the mobile industry and where it’s going. Unfortunately every single part of the 60 minute conversation is pure gold dust, so I’m also going to have to publish in a series.
First off, I wanted to get the fun bit up and out — it’s always interesting being shown around — so that comprises Episode 3. Stay tuned, big time, for some super insight into mobile development. It’s not all about applications. Indeed, Mark and his team have had stunning success without ever building a mobile application — they’ve simply used the mobile web — and in doing so, harnessed a huge audience. (More at this post: Mark Curtis of Flirtomatic: Don’t forget the mobile web).
For now, sit back and enjoy the tour…

Episode 2: Christian Lindholm on Mobile Applications
Thursday, May 28th, 2009Yesterday morning I sat down with Christian Lindholm, the Managing Partner of internationally renowned design house, Fjord. We filmed about 40 minutes worth of his super perspective on all things mobile.
Fjord are the people behind the absolutely beautiful BBC iPlayer Mobile service (amongst others). Christian has a rather unique viewpoint on the mobile industry on account of his relentless pursuit of ‘elegant simplicity’.
Here’s a quick screenshot of the iPlayer on the Nokia N96 and iPhone from the Fjord site:

I can’t put up the whole 40 minutes in one go as it’ll be too big to distribute, so instead, I’ve cut it into parts.
